Morphology

Symmetry and Form

Monad, radial_symmetry, isopolar or subisopolar (syncolpate at one pole) 2- or 3-colporate; elliptic ( E > P ) in equatorial_view; circular (3-ap.) or elliptic (2-ap.) in polar_view

Dimensions

Polar_Axis = 20-28 µm; Equatorial_Axis = 26-31 µm

Apertures

Two or three colpora, Colpus elliptic: colpus apex acute or obtuse, frequently syncolpate at one pole, aperture_membrane granular, distance between the adjacent colpal apices 15-17 µm, margo undifferentiated; costae_colpi absent, Os: circular (d = 4 µm) to ellipsoidal with irregular outline, oral_costae present

Exine

Foveolate, tectate, infratectum columellate, exine thickness at the mid-point of the intercolpium ±2.0 µm

Remark

A eurypalynous genus characterised by four pollen types. On the basis of endoaperture type and aperture number and pollen size, four pollen types can be distinguished [Kuijit, J. & Van der Ham, R.W. (1997: Table 2)]

Tentative Pollen Typification

Alstonia type X
