Morphology

Symmetry and Form

Monad, radial_symmetry, isopolar, 3-(2-) colporate, elliptic ( E > P ) in equatorial_view, subtriangular (angulaperturate) in polar_view

Dimensions

Polar_Axis = 36-40 µm; Equatorial_Axis = 49-52 µm

Apertures

Three colpora; Colpus: very short and elliptic, much shorter than P axis (brevicolpus), colpus apex acute, distance between the adjacent colpal apices 22 µm, margo undifferentiated, aperture_membrane psilate, costae_colpi preset; Os: ± circular,(diameter 5.0-6.0 µm; distinct costae with endocracks in the equatorial_zone

Exine

Psilate to granular (around colpora), tectate, infratectum columellate, exine thickness at the mid-point of the intercolpium ±3.0 µm; Endocracks distinct and longer ones in the para-colpal region and some times around colporus

Remark

A eurypalynous genus. Pollen morphology may be instrumental in subdividing the genus (or-if considered appropriate - in referring the different species to a number of genera now usally regarded as sections etc. under Symplocas) [see Erdtman, G. (1952): p. 425]. Pollen grains of 85 species of Indo-pacific "Symplocos": Symplocos type (2 subtypes) and Hopea type (8 subtypes) in Meijden, R. vand der (1970)

Tentative Pollen Typification

Symplocos "pendula" type
