Neolitsea scrobiculata Gamble

Metadata

Description

An inaperturate and apolar unacetolysed pollen of spherical symmetry; note the pear-shaped spinules, the interspinular "granules" and the cytoplasm is enveloped by 3 layers-inner thin intine, broad onciform zone and outer flimsy exine (Figs. 1-3).

Morphology

Symmetry and Form

Monad, spherical_to_spheroidal, apolar, inaperturate (omniaperturate).

Dimensions

Diameter = 29-42 µm.

Apertures

Inaperturate (no ectexinal apertural markings) or omniaperturate (uniformly patterned exine and intine underlain by a thick onciform_zone).

Exine

Intectae; echinulate or spinulate; spinules coniform to pyriform (1.5x1.0-1.2 µm), inter-spinular distance 1-4 µm, with few minute spinules (0.5 µm). Exine surface between the spinules granular or micro-gemmate, inter-spinular exine thickness 0.5 µm.

Remark

A stenopalynous genus; similar type pollen chracterises the majority of taxa of Lauraceae (Vasanthy, G. & Zavada, M.S. 1992).

Tentative Pollen Typification

Lauroideae type I.
