Description
The manuscript is made of a text, incomplete, whose the palm leaves are numbered from 1 to 56. Very infested by fungus, the leaves are extremely dark and some of them are broken, but the reading is not affected.
The text, entitled Pañca Cūttiram- 500, is written in verses. It deals with philosophy, religion and esotericism, by approaching many subjects, such as history of Akattiyar (carittiram), literature of Pañcatantiram (sk. Pañcatantra), explanation of the sacred chanting Namaśivaya (añceḻuttu), description of a good behavior (nalnaṭattai), explanation of the colours of letters (eḻuttukaḷiṉ niṟam), of the five states of the matter (pañca nilai), and of stars (naṭcatiram). It explains methods to meditate (tiyāṉam) according to Tēvi, Viṣṇu or Ruttiraṉ (sk. Rudra). It provides information on magic : details of curse (cāpa varalāṟu) and how to get rid of it (cāpa nivartti). It evokes the caste system (cāti). It mentioned some medicinal herbs (mūlikai), and some medicinal preparations such as Kēcari tailam, Aiṅkōḷa tailam and Tampaṉam, as well as some collyrium (mai) to perform magical acts : pātāḷa mai (to visualise underground things), pūta mai (to visualise the demons), urumāṟa mai (to transform the physical appearance of a person to another) and kēcari mai (to fly or to float in air). The text explains also the method of divination called pañca paṭci which uses five birds.

முழுமை இல்லாத ஒரு நூலால் ஆனது இந்த சுவடி, அதன் ஓலைகள் 1 முதல் 56 வரை எண்கள் கொண்டவையாகும்.இந்நூல் பூஞ்சை காளானால் மிகவும் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட நிலையில் இருந்தாலும் படிக்ககூடிய நிலையில் உள்ளது.
பஞ்ச சூத்திரம்- 500 என்ற தலைப்புடைய இந்த நூல் விருத்தம் வடிவில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது.இந்நூல் தத்துவம், மதம், வரலாறு போன்ற தகவல்களை உள்ளடக்கிய நூலாகும்.இந்நூல் அகத்தியர் சரித்திரம், பஞ்சதந்திரம், அஞ்செழுத்து விபரம், நல்நடத்தை, எழுத்துகளின் நிறம், பஞ்ச நிலை, நட்சத்திரம் பற்றி கூறுகிறது.மேலும் தேவி தியானம், விஷ்ணு தியானம், ருத்திரன் தியானம், சாப வரலாறு, சாப நிவர்த்தி, சாதி பற்றியும் கூறுகிறது.சில மூலிகைகள் பற்றிய தகவல்கள், மேலும் சில மருந்து செய்முறைகள் பற்றி கூறப்பட்டுள்ளன.அவை : கேசரி தைலம், ஐங்கோள தைலம் மற்றும் தம்பணம் ஆகும்.மேலும் தற்காப்புக்காக சில மை வகைகள் பற்றியும் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.அவை : பாதாள மை, பூத மை, உருமாற மை மற்றும் கேசரி மை.பஞ்ச பட்சி, கோனு பட்சி பற்றியும் கூறுகிறது
Extent and Format of Original Material
Size of the manuscript : 21,7cm x 3,0cm. The text is numbered from 1 to 56 in Tamil and Arab. It contains an additional blank leaf. The manuscript is very damaged by fugus and all the leaves are very dark and fragile. Some leaves are broken but the reading of the text is not affected.
The manuscript contains 57 palm leaves of 12 to 14 lines per leaf. It has no wooden boards.

Mohana Raj acquired the manuscript, 10 years ago from Mr Vicēnti, both a teacher and a siddha practitioner, who resided in the village of Nadaikavu (Naṭaikkāvu, 5km from Muncirai).
