Description

The manuscript is composed of a text, written in verses. It contains palm leaves numbered from 1 to 51; it is complete. The manuscript is in good condition, but the leaves are more and less darkened by fungus infestation.

The text informs that it was copied by Cuppiramaṇiyaṉ, son of Kuppattu Paṇṭitar. It is an ammāṉai, a type of literature in Tamil language which teaches morality through a story. The present text is entitled Cittira Puttirar Ammāṉai.

The story concerns Intiraṉ, considered by Tēvar (Tamil caste reputed as martial) as a king, and his wife, Intirāṇi. As they did not have a child, they prayed Civā. Satisfied by their prayers, Civā came on earth the full moon day of 3rd May, and taken the form of a cow with eternal quality, he gave birth to a child on the bank of a river and returned to his world. Intiraṉ took the baby that he named Cittira puttirar and brought up it. Cittiraputtirar, who was studious and very attracted by mathematics, became a genius. When he became an adult, it got a special job which consisted to report the good and bad deeds by individuals to Yamā, the god of death. Based on these reports, the individuals, after their death, have to go to the heaven or to the hell. The story ends here.

The morality of this story is to encourage people to do only good action. At Cittiraputtirar’s birthday, Hindus worship him by fasting, praying and doing charity in order to increase their karma.

விருத்தம் வடிவில் எழுதப்பட்ட ஒரு நூலை கொண்டதாகும் இந்த சுவடி.1 முதல் 51 வரை எண் கொண்ட ஓலைகளை உடையது; முழுமையான நூலாகும்.இதன் ஓலைகள் சிறிதளவு பூஞ்சையால் கருமை அடைந்து இருந்தாலும் இது நல்ல நிலையில் உள்ள ஒரு சுவடியாகும்.

இந்நூல் குப்பத்து பண்டிதரின் மகன் சுப்பிரமணியன் என்பவரால் படியெடுக்க பட்டது என்ற தகவலையும் கூறுகிறது.இது நன்னடத்தையை பற்றி கூறும் அம்மானை வகை சிற்றிலக்கியம் ஆகும்.இதன் பெயர் சித்திர புத்திரர் அம்மானை ஆகும்.

இந்த அம்மானையில் உள்ள கதையின் சுருக்கம் : தேவர்களுக்கு தலைவன் இந்திரன், அவன் மனைவி இந்திராணி, இவர்களுக்கு குழந்தை பேறு இல்லை.சிவபெருமானை வேண்டி தவம் இருந்தனர், சிவன் மகிழ்ந்து ஒரு தெய்வ பசுவாக பூலோகம் அவனது, ஒரு தடாக கரையில் ஒரு மானிட குழந்தையை சித்திரை மாதம், 18ஆம் நாள், பௌர்ணமி தினத்தில், ஈன்று, மறுபடியும் தேவருலகை பசுவாக வந்து அடைந்தார்.தேவர்கள் சிவன் அருளால் பிறந்த அந்த குழந்தையை வந்து வணங்கி விட்டு சென்றனர்.இந்திரனிடம் செய்தியை சொல்ல இந்திரன் இந்த குழந்தையை எடுத்து வளக்கின்றான்.சித்திர புத்திரன் என்று பெயரிட்டு வளர்த்தார்.உரிய காலத்தில் கல்வி கற்று அறிஞரானார், கணிதத்தில் வல்லவரானார்.

உலகில் உள்ள உயிர்கள் செய்யும் பாவ புண்ணியங்களை கணக்கெடுத்து யமனிடம் கூற, அவர் அவர்களின் பாவ புண்ணிய கணக்கிற்கேற்ப தண்டனைகள் வழங்குவார்.இந்த கணக்கின்படி புண்ணியம் அதிகம் செய்து இருந்தால் மரணத்திற்கு பிறகு சொர்க்கத்தை அடைவார் என்றும் இல்லையென்றால் நரகத்தை அடைவார் என்றும் கூறுகிறது.

இந்த கதையின் நீதி முடிந்த வரை நல்ல செயல்களை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதே ஆகும்.சித்திரை மாதம், பௌர்ணமி தினத்தன்று நோன்பு நோற்று வழிபாடுகளை புரிந்து, தர்மம் செய்து கொண்டாடும் மரபு இன்றளவும் இந்து மக்களிடையே உள்ளது

Size of the manuscript : 39.5cm x 3.5cm. The text is formed of the leaves numbered from 1 to 51. There are 3 additional leaves : one with the title placed at the beginning and two leaves placed at the end of the manuscript which are blank. The manuscript is in good condition, but the leaves are more and less dark.

The manuscript contains 54 palm leaves of 16-18 lines. It has no wooden boards.
