Aṃśumadāgama

Copied from a palm-leaf manuscript belonging to Sri J. Visvanatha Gurukkal, Melamankalam, Madurai Dt. There are three pages extra in the beginning. The first page records the title of the text, the second page gives notes about the text and the third page records the contents of the text. There is a note in the beginning which reads: " (paṭala-s from a collection of āgamas and prayogas. The palm-leaf manuscript belongs to śri P. viśvanāthagurukal, Melamangalam, (Madura Dt.). Its size is 43 cm. long and 4 cm. wide. It contains forty-five leaves numbered in two items, first from one to nineteen and the next from one to twenty-seven. The third leaf in the second item is missing. The writing is normally good. There are an average seven lines per page. The transcript copied herein contains one hundred and sixty pages. This is a collection of six fragmentary paṭalas from Aṃśumad-āgama, a detailed nitya-pūjā-bidhi, in prose session, extending over 60 pages and a paṭala on prāyaścittavidhi taken from kāmikāgama. Here the paṭala on prāyaścitta contains only 152 śloka-s, where as in kāmika it exceeds nine hundred. The ślokas found in the former (here) are a mere selection picked up here and there from the latter. The Prayoga of nitya-pūjā-vidhi copied here is short, an ambiguous and satisfactorily good and free from too much archaism. Nilakantha Sarma 30/01/60 "
