Varṇāśramācāravidhi : Kāmikopabheda

This text offers a treatment of the condut of the śaivites professing caste and orders. Purification is dealt with at the outset for all pollutions including thosse which are caused by the death of a person. śrāddha-s of various kinds are treated here. Paśulakṣaṇa, pratyābdikaśrāddha and kalāśodhana are then dealt with. Fols. 15a and 16b have the words dvitīya sarga and tṛtīya sārga in the margin. It is not however clear that why the word sarga is used here. It is equally hard to find out the portion which should form part of the first sarga. The text contains 165 śloka-s. According to the colophon on fol. 16b, the author is the sage praṇava and the treatment is based on one of the upāgama of the kāmikāgama; it may be an extract or a part of an upāgama. Praṇava, Trikāla and Hara are the three śiva-s who were taught kāmikāgama by the supreme paramaśiva. Fol. 1 contains some numerals : 1Aa, some mantra-s(?) in Tamil; 1Ab, the last song of the tiruvempāvai (Tamil); 1Ba, a subhāṣitaśloka; 1Bb, jaratkārumantra to give protection from snakes; 1C, lakṣaṇa of the umākāntamaṇḍala, colours of the īśānamukha, etc. and īśānādiliṅgalakṣaṇa; 1Da, the 3rd śloka of the śivānandalaharī and the 1st śloka of the śivāparādhakṣamāpaṇastotra; 1Ea, 2 śloka-s in praise of vināyakastotra, śiva, etc
