This text contains 108 names of śiva. This is said to form part of the bhaviṣyottarapurāṇa in śivarahasya. Nārāyaṇa tells these names to gaurī. The name of the stotra is given as sadāśivāṣṭottaraśatadivyanāmastotramahāmantra in the saṃkalpa at the beginning

śrīnārāyaṇa uvāca। asti guhyataraṃ gauri nāmnāmaṣṭottaraṃ śatam। śambhoraṇaṃ(nāma) pravakṣyāmi paṭhitaṃ śīghrakāmadam॥ asya śrīsadāśivāṣṭottaraśatadivyanāmastottramahāmantrasya nārāyaṇa ṛṣiḥ। anuṣṭupcchandaḥ। śrīsadāśivo devatā। dhavalavapuṣamindormaṇḍale sanniṣaṇṇaṃ bhujagavalayahāraṃ bhasmādīptāṅgamīśam।
